Q2. How to best store Wags and Paws goodies?
To keep your Wags and Paws treats fresh and delicious, proper storage is crucial. Here’s what you need to know:
Dark and Dry: Store your Wags and Paws goodies in a dark and dry space, or follow any specific storage instructions mentioned on the pouch. Moisture is the enemy here, so ensure it doesn’t reach the food to maintain freshness.
Avoid Temperature Fluctuations: If you decide to store them in the fridge, avoid transferring them outside for extended periods as temperature changes can lead to condensation, potentially spoiling the treats.
In summary:
- Store them in the original packaging in a cupboard, ensuring a tight seal at the top.
- Alternatively, use an airtight container for storage.
- You can freeze them for up to a year.
- After your pet has chewed on a treat, wrap it in a cloth and leave it at room temperature in a well-ventilated area for up to two weeks.
- For longer periods and repeated chew sessions, it’s best to return the treats to the freezer.
Following these guidelines will help preserve the quality and freshness of our treats for your furry friend.
Q3. How are our Treats and Chews made?
Our products are gently air dried at low temperatures to retain nutrients over an appropriate period of time – made fresh and in small batches,
Q4. How much Wags and Paws Food/Treats can I feed my dog?
All our dehydrated foods undergo a unique process where they are air-dried at consistently low temperatures over extended periods. This process involves removing moisture from the raw produce. Because most fresh produce contains a significant amount of water, it becomes significantly lighter when dried.
While the moisture is reduced, the essential nutrition in the food is retained. This is why Wags and Paws food may appear to be in smaller quantities but is exceptionally filling. As a general guideline, you can consider that everything you receive from us is approximately 3-4 times as filling as it may appear due to our specialized drying process.
It’s important to note that these are average estimates, and you can adjust the portion size based on your pet’s individual needs and appetite.
- For our Treats – Please check feeding guidelines on packaging of our treats.
- For our Supplements: 1 teaspoon per 10 kg bodyweight daily – that means ½ teaspoon for cats, 1 teaspoon for small dogs, ½ tablespoon for medium sized dogs and 1 tablespoon for large dogs4
- For our Meals (if used as complete nutrition): ½ Cup for cats & small dogs1 Cup for medium sized dogs2 Cups for large dogs
Q5. Can I store a chew after my pet has chewed on it?
Absolutely! You can store a chew after your pet has chewed on it. To do so, simply wrap it in a cloth or place it in a ziplock bag, and then store it in either the freezer or the fridge. This will help keep the chew fresh for future use.
Q6. Why is my pet so thirsty after Wags and Paws food, treats and chews?
Your pet may become thirsty after eating Wags and Paws goodies primarily because it’s dried food. Much like when we consume dry foods, a drink afterward can be refreshing. Additionally, chewing the food provides a workout for your pet, which can also prompt them to drink water as they may feel a bit thirsty after the effort.
If your pet eats too quickly, you might notice vomiting or diarrhea. While this can be concerning, it’s not necessarily a sign of illness. It often happens because your pet is adjusting to the new food, and this can sometimes involve a detoxification process where their body eliminates stored toxins. It’s essential to monitor their eating habits and provide water as needed during this adjustment period.
Q7. Why are my pet’s stools hard and small after introducing/switching to raw food?
If you’ve recently introduced or switched your pet to a raw food diet, you may notice that their stools become smaller and firmer. This change is often observed in raw-fed dogs and cats because their bodies are efficiently utilizing the nutrients in the food. Raw food is typically more digestible, leading to reduced waste production.
To support your pet’s transition to this diet, ensure they have access to fresh water while eating dry food. This allows them to replenish the moisture that may be lost due to the lower water content in raw food. Small, firm stools are generally a positive sign that your pet is benefiting from the raw food diet. However, it’s essential to monitor their overall health and consult with a veterinarian if you have any concerns during the transition.
